Upward Rain Streaks Over Yukon Snow Cornice in from a ridge above layered foothills in Yukon

Upward Rain Streaks Over Yukon Snow Cornice

by Raquel Hodges

Soft, overcast light washes a massive snow cornice curling precariously over a rugged mountain ridge in the Yukon. Below, layered foothills stretch into the distance under a perfectly clear sky, their early spring thaw revealing patches of dark earth beneath melting ice. From a low angle, the sheer scale of the frozen overhang dominates the foreground. Instead of falling, crisp silver streaks of rain ascend vertically from the valley floor, defying gravity as they climb toward the cloudless blue. The ice texture shows granular crystals and smooth glaze, contrasting sharply with the metallic sheen of the rising water. Each silver line ends abruptly against the white snow, creating a rigid, geometric pattern that cuts through the organic curves of the landscape. at the edge is a droplet of water suspended mid-ascent, hanging perfectly still against the pale blue expanse.
