Ecuadorian Stone Hermitage Sunset Cliff View
by Micah Brady
Rough-hewn volcanic stone blocks form a weathered hermitage clinging to the steep edge of a high Andean cliff. The last amber light of midsummer sunset strikes the western facade, highlighting the coarse texture of the masonry against deepening shadows in the crevices. Low-hanging clouds drift just above the structure, their gray undersides illuminated by the fading sun while the peaks remain dark. The building stands solitary against the vast, sloping rock face, its small arched window reflecting a faint orange glow. Moss rests on the damp northern stones where the shadow falls, and the uneven roofline cuts a jagged silhouette against the dimming sky. One stone protrudes from the lower wall, casting a sharp, dark shadow across the rough ground below.
