Sulfur Vent Near Massarah in Winter Mist

by Corinne Vargas

Low sun pierces the horizon haze, illuminating a fumarole vent where sulfur-yellow deposits coat the rough, dark rock. Thick winter mist rests on the ground, softening the edges of the geologic formation while the first light strikes the steam rising from the crack. The yellow mineral crust contrasts sharply against the grey, weathered stone and the pale, diffuse glow of the morning fog. A low angle view emphasizes the vent's height, making the rock face loom against the pale sky. The steam drifts slowly across the foreground, partially obscuring the base of the vent where the yellow powder accumulates in jagged patches.
