Meteor Fragments Streaking Over Dormant Caldera in beneath thin cloud gaps and stars in Peru

Meteor Fragments Streaking Over Dormant Caldera

by Seth Ortiz

Silhouetted against a star-filled sky, jagged meteor fragments streak downward in bright, linear trails. Below, the dark, undulating rim of a dormant caldera rises from the shadowed ground, its contours softened by the late-night clarity. Thin cloud gaps reveal patches of deep indigo above, while faint auroral hues wash over the upper horizon. The air appears exceptionally clear, sharpening the contrast between the black volcanic rock and the brilliant white fire of the falling meteors. Sparse, dry vegetation rests on the slopes, hinting at the peak autumn season. The scene is dominated by the sharp geometric lines of the light trails cutting through the vast, still darkness. One bright fragment hangs suspended just above the highest ridge, its path ending abruptly in the void.
