Soft, diffused light falls through heavy overcast skies, illuminating a tight cluster of wolves and caribou on a flat, open plain. The ground appears dry and dusty, scattered with sparse, low-lying vegetation typical of a dry season landscape. Several grey wolves crouch low, muscles taut beneath their thick fur, eyes fixed intently on a nearby caribou standing alert with ears pricked forward. The animals occupy the center of the frame, their forms sharp against the muted grey and brown tones of the background. A shallow depth of field blurs the distant horizon, keeping focus on the tension between predator and prey. The wet sheen on the wolves' muzzles suggests recent rain, against the dry earth beneath their paws. One droplet of water rests on the tip of a caribou's ear, catching the flat light.
