Winter Cloudburst on Ancient Stone Steps in through low marine fog in Anhui

Winter Cloudburst on Ancient Stone Steps

by Ethan Nolan

Deep night sky hangs above a cascade of water rushing down weathered stone steps in Anhui. The stone, rough and dark from moisture, reflects faint starlight while ground fog pools in the crevices between the steps. Water flows in a continuous sheet, creating white froth where it strikes the lower tiers. The low marine fog softens the edges of the surrounding darkness, leaving the illuminated water as the primary visual anchor. Cold air settles in the hollows, visible as a thin, gray layer clinging to the ground. The steps curve slightly, guiding the eye downward into the shadowed depths where the water disappears. one drop of water hangs suspended on the rough edge of the lowest stone, catching the dim ambient glow.
