Weather Station Buried in Rime Snow Near Oslo

by Dustin Ryan

Cold metal housings stand half-buried in a mound of rime and windblown snow near Oslo. The endless summer light of late morning fills the sky with a pale, diffuse glow that eliminates harsh shadows. Condensation beads along the ridges of the equipment, glistening against the white crust. The snow texture varies from smooth drifts to jagged, icy accumulations clinging to the frame. No vegetation breaks the white expanse, showing the isolation of the scientific instruments. Water droplets slide slowly down the vertical surfaces, merging with the frost below. A small red indicator light glows faintly on the side panel.
