Transmission towers over frost pasture at Oslo twilight
by Maggie Pace
Steel lattice structures rise steeply from a low angle, their dark geometric frames silhouetted against the pale violet sky of a polar night. Below, a frost-hardened pasture stretches out, its dry grasses stiff and grey under a dusting of fresh snow. Gentle flakes drift through the air, visible as white streaks against the deepening shadows. Puddled service roads reflect the dim ambient light, creating slick mirrors of the grey sky and the towering infrastructure. A snow fence runs along the edge of the field, its slats catching the falling snow. The scene is defined by the cold, civic-scale austerity of the metal towers dominating the flat, frozen ground. at the edge is the sharp contrast between the rough texture of the frosted grass and the smooth, wet surface of the road puddle.
