Waning Moon Over Sleeping Volcano at Sunset
Heavy overcast skies hang low above a Russian alpine saddle, casting the landscape in flat, gray twilight. A waning gibbous moon sits high in the cloud cover, its cratered surface visible as a pale gray disc against the darkening clouds. Below, the sleeping volcano rises as a massive, jagged silhouette, its ridges sharp against the dimming light. The endless summer sun lingers on the horizon, creating a band of muted orange and yellow that barely penetrates the thick cloud layer. A dark rock formation in the foreground frames the distant peak, creating a natural window through which the moon and mountain are viewed. The textures of the volcanic rock appear rough and weathered, against the smooth, diffuse light of the sky. A faint, cool reflection of the moon glimmers on a small patch of wet slate near the bottom edge.
