Copper Light on Volcanic Plateau Fumaroles in across a floodplain after rain near Rustaveli, Tbilisi

Copper Light on Volcanic Plateau Fumaroles

by Keith Mathews

Copper-toned light spills across a rugged volcanic plateau where thin plumes of steam rise from fumaroles. Below, the flat expanse of a floodplain glistens with wet mud and scattered puddles reflecting the dimming sky. Low-hanging clouds press against the horizon, their gray undersides against the warm glow touching the stone. The terrain shows deep fissures and rough textures, carved by wind and time. Layers of rock and earth recede into the distance, showing vast, silent space. One wisp of vapor curls upward, catching the firelight warmth before dissolving into the cool air near the floodplain edge.
