Volcanic Stone Ruins Ringed by Wild Fennel in through a courtyard reclaimed by grasses in Bolivia

Volcanic Stone Ruins Ringed by Wild Fennel

by Juliana Garza

Midday tropical light floods a courtyard where grasses reclaim the space around rough volcanic stone blocks. Low-hanging clouds diffuse the brightness, casting soft shadows across the textured surfaces. Wild fennel plants grow thickly around the perimeter, their feathery green fronds against the dark, weathered rock. A stone archway frames the view, creating a natural window into the deeper courtyard. The grasses sway gently, their blades catching the light in shades of pale yellow and vibrant green. The stone blocks show deep cracks and erosion patterns from years of exposure. At the base of the wall, a single fennel stalk bends slightly under its own weight, its seed heads catching the sun.
