Vesak Temple Illuminated by Oil Lamps in Dhaka Chapel

by Barry McDowell

Neon reflections shimmer across the polished marble floor of a Dhanmondi chapel during late spring twilight. Rows of small clay oil lamps cast warm, flickering halos against the cool blue glow filtering through stained glass windows. The chapel interior remains uncluttered, with smooth white walls and minimal decorative objects drawing focus to the hundreds of flames. Each wick burns steadily, creating tiny points of orange light that dance against the geometric patterns of the stained glass. The air appears still, with no visible movement of smoke or dust. The contrast between the ancient ritual of oil lamps and the modern neon light creates a layered visual texture. One flame flickers near the base of a stone pillar, its shadow stretching across the reflective surface.
