Diwali Lamps Glow in Delhi Prayer Hall at Sunset

Rows of small clay oil lamps line a stone floor inside a Delhi prayer hall, their flames flickering in the last amber light of a late summer sunset. Dramatic, heavy clouds press against the high arched windows, casting shifting shadows across the textured clay and worn stone surfaces. The warm orange glow from the wicks contrasts with the deepening blue of the twilight sky visible through the openings. Dust motes hang motionless in the shafts of light, illuminating the rough edges of the earthenware cups. The arrangement recedes into the background, creating layers of depth that draw toward the darkened arches at the far end of the hall. One flame catches the edge of a ceramic rim, highlighting the uneven texture of the handmade pottery.
