Evening Oil Lamps Along Delhi Ghats During Aarti

Rows of small clay oil lamps line the stone edge of the ghats, their flames flickering in unison against the encroaching twilight. The midsummer heat radiates from the warm terracotta surfaces, against the cool blue shadows stretching across the weathered steps. Above, a perfectly clear sky deepens from azure to indigo, while distant town lights begin to glow on the horizon, framing the courtyard in a soft, artificial halo. The low angle emphasizes the rhythmic repetition of the flames, each one casting a small, dancing pool of orange light onto the rough stone. One wick glows brightest at the front, its flame tilting slightly as a breeze passes through the open courtyard. The stone steps show years of foot traffic, their edges worn smooth by generations of devotees.
