Flickering Oil Lamps in Namangan Stone Temple

by Leila Cannon

Warm amber light spills across rough-hewn limestone blocks, casting deep shadows into the narrow recesses of a stone corridor. Hundreds of small clay oil lamps line the floor and low ledges, their flames dancing violently in the draft. The light catches the uneven texture of the ancient masonry, highlighting cracks filled with soot and dust. At the far end, a massive stone altar rises, its surface worn smooth by generations of touch. Shadows stretch long and thin, settling into the corners where the air remains still. one drop of melted wax hardens on the edge of a nearby stone slab, marking the passage of time.
