Dust and Flicker in Kabul Temple Corridor in inside a candlelit nave in Kabul

Dust and Flicker in Kabul Temple Corridor

by Garrett Richardson

Dim blue light from high windows spills across a stone corridor lined with rows of oil lamps. The flame tips dance in a steady draft, casting long, wavering shadows against rough-hewn walls. Dust particles swirl visibly in the narrow shafts of cool daylight, creating a hazy texture where the air meets the firelight. The stone floor shows signs of age, worn smooth by centuries of movement. Above, the ceiling arches into deep shadow, framing the glowing points of amber light. Each lamp sits in a simple metal holder, their soot-blackened rims catching the dim glow. The light from the windows fades into the darkness at the far end of the hall, leaving only the warm, shifting flicker to define the space.
