Frozen Tarn in Ontario Cirque Under Snowy Noon

by Debra Franklin

Flat noon light spreads across a high-altitude cirque in Ontario, illuminating a frozen tarn locked in endless summer conditions. Soft light after rain dampens the jagged scree slopes that flank the ice. Snow falls gently, settling on the loose rock and the smooth, glassy surface of the frozen water. Patches of green moss rest on the wet stones near the water's edge, beside white flakes drifting down. The steep drop of loose rock rises against the dark, wet granite at the bottom right corner. One flake rests on a sharp rock fragment.
