Frozen Tarn in Sapporo Cirque Under Snowfall

Soft overcast light washes the layered foothills near Sapporo in a pale, uniform glow. A deep cirque cradles a frozen tarn, its surface a sheet of opaque white ice fractured by dark, angular scree slopes. Gentle snowflakes drift down, accumulating on the rough stones and the flat, solid water. The low angle emphasizes the steepness of the bowl, making the ridges loom overhead against a sky of muted gray. Patches of brown grass peek through the thin snow cover along the rim, signaling the brief arctic summer. The texture of the ice contrasts with the sharp, jagged rocks, while the falling snow blurs the distant valley floor into a soft haze. A small patch of exposed dark rock anchors the foreground against the white expanse.
