Braided Glacial Rivers Over Bogota Gravel Flats

by Lily Charles

Pale turquoise water splits into intricate channels across broad, grey gravel flats in an early evening aerial view. Thick mist hangs low over the wet stones, softening the edges of the braided streams as they thread toward the distant horizon. Above the riverbed, terraced hillsides rise in dark green layers, their contours obscured by the heavy rain season atmosphere. A faint orange glow from a distant town lights the far horizon, against the cool blue tones of the misty water. The rule of thirds places the river network in the lower section, leaving the upper third dominated by the hazy, sloping terrain. Sharp shadows from the low sun stretch across the gravel, highlighting the rough texture of the stones beneath the flowing water.
