Surreal Breakwater Lantern Under Transmission Towers

by Paul Burns

Cold moonlight strikes the rusted metal casing of a breakwater lantern, revealing a thick carpet of moss and grass that defies gravity. The vegetation grows horizontally across the vertical steel surfaces, clinging to the structure in impossible sheets of emerald and gold. Heavy concrete foundations anchor the tower, their rough textures illuminated by the stark, unyielding side light. Above, the skeletal legs of transmission towers rise into the deep night sky, their sharp angles cutting through the darkness. The ground remains flat and dark, providing a solid contrast to the floating greenery. One patch of bright green moss highlights the edge of the lantern's glass housing.
