Transmission Towers Mirrored in Peat Pools in across a windy overpass interchange in Azerbaijan

Transmission Towers Mirrored in Peat Pools

by Monica Hays

Pale morning haze softens the steel lattice of towering transmission structures rising from a windy overpass interchange in Azerbaijan. Just after sunrise, low-hanging clouds press against the sky, casting a diffuse, silver light across the cables and crossbeams. Below the infrastructure, black peat pools on the moor act as dark mirrors, capturing inverted reflections of the towers and their intricate wire networks. Early spring vegetation dots the landscape with muted greens and browns, against the stark industrial geometry. The birds-eye perspective emphasizes the engineered force of the pylons against the organic, uneven surface of the peat. Sharp edges of the steel stand out clearly against the soft, gray atmospheric conditions. A thin cable stretches diagonally across the upper right, cutting through the haze.
