Transmission Towers Mirrored in Moor Pools
by Marc Jordan
Dramatic clouds stack high above the horizon where the first rays of sunrise ignite the edges of heavy gray formations. Low-angle perspective places massive steel transmission towers against the brightening sky, their lattice structures sharp and industrial. Below, a canal lock chamber in Morocco cuts through the landscape, its concrete walls reflecting the morning light. Dark, still water fills the lock, creating a mirror surface that inverts the towering steel frames and the cloud-filled sky. Late summer heat hangs visibly in the air, evidenced by the dry, dusty tones of the surrounding moorland. The black peat pools near the water's edge absorb the dawn light, against the metallic gray of the infrastructure. A thin line of reflected steel cuts through the dark water, at the base of the massive vertical forms in the horizontal expanse of the lock.
