Symmetrical Rope Bridge Over Jungle Gorge West Bengal

by Cathy Massey

Thick hemp ropes form a sturdy suspension bridge spanning a deep, mist-filled gorge in West Bengal. Bright midmorning sunlight pierces through a layer of cool-season fog, illuminating the rough texture of the wooden planks and the twisted fibers of the handrails. Lush green jungle foliage rests on the steep gorge walls on either side, creating a natural frame around the structure. The bridge hangs perfectly centered, showing the vast emptiness below where the valley floor disappears into white haze. A small wooden railing post stands at the near edge, its grain wet with morning dew. The symmetry of the cables draws the gaze straight across the chasm to the opposite bank.
