Swaying Rope Bridge Over Jungle Gorge Jamaica Noon
by Norman Barr
Rough-hewn wooden planks form a narrow walkway suspended by thick, weathered hemp ropes above a churning river gorge. Lush green vegetation rests on the steep canyon walls on either side, their leaves glistening with fresh moisture from the recent monsoon rains. The sky above is a stark, cloudless blue, casting a flat, bright glare that eliminates soft shadows and highlights the texture of the twisted fibers. A lone traveler in a yellow raincoat pauses mid-crossing, their figure small against the vast expanse of the gorge. The bridge sways slightly, indicated by the blurred motion of the ropes and the distant mist rising from the water below. At the far end, the wooden railing meets the rough stone of the jungle bank, anchoring the structure firmly to the earth.
