Rope Bridge Over Jungle River Gorge Sri Lanka

by Lois Glass

Twisted hemp ropes form a narrow bridge spanning a deep, mist-filled gorge where a jungle river flows below. The structure hangs suspended in deep shadow, yet a sharp rim light traces the frayed edges of the woven fibers and the damp bamboo handrails. Lush green ferns and broad tropical leaves crowd the steep banks, glistening with recent rain. Below, the dark water reflects faint glimmers of emerging city lights glowing orange against the twilight sky. The low angle emphasizes the bridge's precarious height and the sheer drop into the gorge. Warm coastal air seems to hang heavy in the humid space, softening the contrast between the dark wood and the bright sky.
