Frayed Rope Bridge Over Gorge in Spring in along a vine-choked corridor in California

Frayed Rope Bridge Over Gorge in Spring

by Emilio McLeod

Sunlight falls through a canopy of green leaves, casting shifting patches of brightness across the weathered wooden planks of a rope bridge. The structure hangs precariously over a deep gorge, its metal cables frayed and rusted where the rope has worn away. Vines climb the iron supports, their tender spring green shoots wrapping tightly around the corroded metal. Low clouds hover just above the tree line, softening the sky into a pale wash. The bridge sways slightly, anchored by thick cables that disappear into the rocky cliff face. One rusted bolt on the side rail reflects the dappled light, marking the boundary between the man-made ruin and the encroaching forest.
