Midnight Rope Bridge Over Jungle Gorge Near Kuala Lumpur
by Jodie Brewer
Faint starlight illuminates a weathered rope bridge stretching across a deep jungle gorge near Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. Thick vines drape from the canopy above, their dark silhouettes merging with the shadows of the wet season foliage. The wooden planks of the bridge appear damp and slick under the low ground glow reflecting off the moist earth below. Distant haze settles low on the horizon, softening the outline of the surrounding hills into a pale, indistinct band. Metal cables hold tension, their silver strands catching the minimal ambient light against the heavy blackness of the tropical night. The structure hangs firmly between two rocky outcrops, its swaying ropes visible in the stillness. A droplet of water rests on the end of a frayed rope, catching the faint reflection of the sky.
