Suspended Fruit Over Flooded Bangladesh Levee in beside a storm surge barrier in Bangladesh

Suspended Fruit Over Flooded Bangladesh Levee

by Laila Luna

A concrete levee path stretches diagonally across the frame, its wet gray surface reflecting the pale late afternoon sky. Raindrops create small ripples on the asphalt as a light drizzle falls. Along the edge of the path, the massive steel piers of a storm surge barrier rise vertically, their rusted textures against the smooth concrete. Above, the sky is not empty but densely packed with enormous, oversized mangoes and jackfruits floating in mid-air. These massive fruits hang motionless, their vibrant green and yellow skins detailed with realistic textures, dwarfing the barrier structure below. The impossible orchard fills the upper third of the view, casting soft, diffuse shadows onto the wet ground. Tiny raindrops rest on the skin of the floating fruit, catching the light. One large mango near the barrier edge reflects the steel railing below it.
