Upside-Down Flood Reflection Beneath Bahrain Bridge in under a cable-stayed bridge span in Bahrain

Upside-Down Flood Reflection Beneath Bahrain Bridge

by Mario Glass

Silver winter light cuts through thick autumn fog to illuminate a levee patrol truck parked beside cracked, drying mud and a pool of still floodwater. The massive steel cables of a cable-stayed bridge stretch overhead, their dark geometry against the pale mist. Above the truck, the sky transforms into a liquid ceiling of water, perfectly mirroring the scene below in an impossible, inverted reflection. The cracked earth and the truck's tires appear suspended in this dual reality, with the bridge's concrete piers anchoring both the ground and the watery sky. One puddle on the cracked mud surface catches the inverted light of the bridge cables, creating a sharp boundary between the solid earth and the fluid ceiling.
