Sunbeam in New Mexico Slot Canyon

Intense tropical light cuts through the narrow opening of a red sandstone slot canyon, striking the dusty floor with sharp clarity. From a high vantage point looking straight down, the layered foothills of New Mexico stretch out in a tapestry of rust and ochre below. Visible heat haze shimmers above the ground, blurring distant ridges and softening the sharp edges of the rock walls. One column of light falls across the shadowed interior, illuminating grains of sand and small pebbles resting on the canyon floor. The surrounding walls rise vertically, their rough, eroded surfaces displaying deep striations of geological history. A wavering distortion of the hot air hovers at the edge of the illuminated patch.
