Glass River in New Mexico Canyon Dawn in along a wave-cut shoreline in New Mexico

Glass River in New Mexico Canyon Dawn

by Paxton Schultz

First light strikes the horizon haze, illuminating a silver river flowing across a canyon floor in New Mexico. The water retains its metallic hue while appearing as a solid, transparent glass slab that lets the riverbed beneath it remain perfectly visible. Low angle framing emphasizes the geologic grandeur of the eroded shoreline, where red sandstone textures stretch from the immediate foreground to the distant horizon. The clear sky above offers no clouds, only a pale gradient of early spring dawn. Sunlight catches the smooth, glass-like surface of the river, creating sharp reflections on the stone banks beside it. The transparent flow moves silently through the canyon, its edges defined by the crisp light of morning.
