Dawn Mesa Rising From New Mexico Desert Shore
First rays of sunrise spill across a flat, wave-cut shoreline in midsummer New Mexico, illuminating the base of a towering mesa. The air shimmers with a thick heat haze that softens the distant rock face and blurs the horizon line. Pale gold light strikes the mesa's eastern cliff, creating a stark contrast against the deepening blue shadows in the canyon crevices below. Dry, cracked earth stretches toward the water's edge, its dusty ochre tones glowing under the low-angle sun. A faint ripple of distortion rises from the ground, warping the lower contours of the rock.
