Winter Dawn Storm Drain Ladder Low Angle in beneath transmission towers in Manitoba

Winter Dawn Storm Drain Ladder Low Angle

by Raul Colon

Steel rungs descend vertically from a concrete rim into the deep shadow of a storm drain. The metal is slick with steady rain, reflecting the pale, gray light of nautical dawn. Raindrops rest on the edges of the square concrete opening, creating a wet, dark surface. Above, the massive steel lattice legs of a transmission tower rise out of the frame, at the base of the structure in a flat, frozen landscape. The air holds a visible chill as droplets fall from the overhang. The ladder's rusted texture contrasts sharply with the smooth, wet gray of the surrounding concrete. A small pool of runoff water gathers at the base of the visible frame, mirroring the dark opening above.
