Winter Golden Hour at Syrian Border Tower Ruin in among collapsed cloisters in Syria

Winter Golden Hour at Syrian Border Tower Ruin

by Kenneth McGowan

Rich amber light from the setting sun floods the interior of a crumbling border guard tower, illuminating dust motes suspended in the still air. Shattered observation glass lies in jagged shards across the cracked concrete floor, catching the low-angle glow. Exposed brickwork and broken arches frame the view of collapsed cloisters outside, where bare winter branches reach toward the sky. Deep shadows pool in the corners while the warm light highlights the texture of weathered stone and peeling plaster. A narrow beam of sunlight cuts through a gap in the roof, landing precisely on a pile of rubble. The wind moves unseen through the empty rooms, stirring loose debris against the cold, grey masonry.
