Silk Road Church Ruins Evening Light in among roofless stone chambers in the Silk Road

Silk Road Church Ruins Evening Light

by Norman Stokes

Honeyed evening light wraps around the skeletal remains of a colonial church standing roofless among stone chambers. The horizon glows with a low, golden band that silhouettes the structure, revealing hollowed wooden beams eaten through by termites. Rough stone walls rise in uneven layers, their surfaces weathered by centuries of wind. Sparse early autumn vegetation rests on the crumbling masonry, with dry leaves scattered across the floor. Low-hanging clouds drift above, casting soft shadows that deepen the texture of the decay. The wooden beams curve inward, their surfaces pitted and fragile, contrasting against the bright, warm sky. One fractured archway frames the distant glow, its edge sharp against the fading light.
