Lion's Mane Jellyfish Drifting in Auckland Blue Hour

by Lana Wilkins

Deep indigo water fills the frame, holding a faint, fading glow that bleeds down from the surface. A lion's mane jellyfish dominates the center, its pale, translucent bell glowing softly against the darkening backdrop. Long, thin tentacles trail meters behind the bell, stretching toward the bottom edge of the view and dissolving into the shadow. Suspended particles glitter in the water column, catching the last ambient light like scattered stars. The jellyfish's oral arms drape beneath the bell in delicate, web-like layers. Tiny organic specks drift beside the bell, resting in the stillness of the late summer water. One tentacle tip curves gently near the lower right corner, its transparency merging with the surrounding void.
