Dark skeletal frames of a derelict cable car station rise against a burning orange horizon across the river near Chongqing. The metal supports hang heavy and still, their cables slack and drooping like limp ropes. Dry leaves skitter across the rusted concrete platform, caught in sudden gusts that ripple the surface of the water below.
