Bridge Maintenance Cage Swinging in Misty Chongqing

Early winter mist rests on the surface of the Yangtze River in Chongqing, softening the distant skyline while a steel maintenance cage hangs suspended beside a massive concrete pier. The cage, painted a utilitarian yellow, sways gently in a crosswind that ripples the water below. Clear late-afternoon light cuts through the haze, defining the rivets on the steel framework and the rough texture of the wet concrete. The structure casts a sharp, thin shadow against the gray stone. Below, the river moves with visible urgency, its surface broken by whitecaps where the current hits the pier base. The cage hangs at an angle, revealing the intricate network of cables and pulleys that keep it aloft. A rusted bolt on the lower railing catches the light, marking the wear of daily industrial use.
