Rusted Bridge Over Gorge in German Stone Ruins in among roofless stone chambers in Germany

Rusted Bridge Over Gorge in German Stone Ruins

by Grant Meza

Late afternoon sun floods a deep gorge where a decaying railway bridge spans the chasm. Heavy iron girders, coated in thick orange rust, crisscross the sky against a backdrop of weathered stone. Roofless chambers line the gorge walls, their hollow interiors filled with damp, trapped air that softens the sharp edges of the masonry. Green moss rests on the damp lower stones, signaling the turn of seasons. Vines drape over the rusted metal, weaving through the structural gaps. The bright tropical light casts deep shadows within the stone hollows, highlighting the texture of crumbling mortar and the rough surface of the oxidized steel. One bolt hangs loose on a lower beam, swaying slightly in the unseen breeze.
