Rice Paddy Rows Mirroring Storm Light in along freshly irrigated rows in Menteng, Jakarta

Rice Paddy Rows Mirroring Storm Light

by Scott Fuentes

Golden evening light spills across freshly irrigated rice rows in Menteng, Jakarta, turning the water-filled channels into shimmering mirrors. Bent green seedlings bow under the weight of recent rain, their tips dipping toward the wet soil. The water between the rows reflects the darkening sky, creating a textured surface of deep amber and slate gray. Mud walls separate the narrow strips of cultivation, holding the water in place. The scene stretches into the distance where the irrigation channels converge. One droplet rests on the curve of a leaf, catching the last reflection of the sunset before vanishing into the dark earth below.
