Dark soil tracks cut through the green expanse of a rice paddy in Pettah, Colombo. Bent seedlings stand in rows, their tips bowed low under the weight of the rainy season. The late afternoon sun casts a sharp, dry mountain light that turns the wet stalks into black silhouettes against a perfectly clear sky. The tractor track creates a rough, uneven border of churned earth beside the orderly crops. Water reflects the bright sky in shallow pools between the plants. The angle of the light stretches long shadows across the mud, highlighting the texture of the soil and the fragile curve of the leaves. One droplet hangs from the tip of a foreground stalk, catching the final glow of the day.
