Midnight Rain on Vijayapura Fortification Wall in among toppled columns and nettles near Vijayapura

Midnight Rain on Vijayapura Fortification Wall

by Jade Meza

Deep shadows swallow the crumbling fortification wall near Vijayapura, broken only by a sharp rim of pale light tracing the fractured stone edges. Steady rain falls in thin, vertical streaks that blur the dark surface, while thick green moss rests on the damp crevices between the weathered blocks. Topped columns lie scattered on the muddy ground, their broken bases half-hidden by the tangled, dark green nettles growing in the wet soil. The sky offers no stars, only a heavy, uniform gray that merges with the shadowed foreground. Water beads on the rough masonry, running in tiny rivulets down the uneven face of the ancient structure. One drop slides off a jagged stone fragment and vanishes into the shadow below.
