Quetzal Feathers in Kuwait Twilight Forest
by Macy Liu
Steel-blue ambient light fills the air as indigo twilight settles over a rugged Kuwaiti landscape. A dense cluster of emerald green and white quetzal tail feathers drapes from a dark, circular hole in a weathered rock formation. Raindrops glisten on the iridescent plumage, suspended in the heavy, wet air of a brief sun shower. The feathers cascade downward, contrasting sharply against the rough, ochre stone of the cliff face. Low-angle perspective emphasizes the vertical drop of the feathers and the imposing height of the rock. Distant, dry autumn shrubs dot the rocky terrain below, their muted browns and greys blending with the twilight shadows. The texture of the feathers appears soft and layered, catching the faint, fading light against the hard geology. A final drop of water rests on the tip of the longest feather.
