Silhouetted Quetzal on Missouri Trail at Dawn

Deep shadow blankets a narrow game trail winding through early autumn foliage. A resplendent quetzal stands in profile, its form reduced to a sharp black silhouette against the pale, heavy gray of the overcast sky. The bird's long tail feathers extend downward, merging with the dark undergrowth. A thin rim of cool, pre-dawn light traces the curve of its beak and the edge of its wings, separating the dark figure from the misty background. Moss rests on the gnarled roots of nearby trees, while fallen leaves in shades of russet and brown scatter the forest floor. The light remains flat and diffuse, creating a quiet, elemental stillness along the path.
