Rare Wadi Water Flowing on Stone Ledge at Sunset

by Lee Waters

Warm golden light spills across a rough stone ledge inside a building in Isfahan, illuminating a thin ribbon of clear water trickling from a miniature desert wadi formation. The water moves with a glossy sheen, catching the low-angle sun and reflecting the deep ochre tones of the surrounding rock. Fine grains of sand and small pebbles line the shallow channel, their textures sharpened by the directional glow. Dust motes hang suspended in the air above the stream, visible only where the light strikes them. The stone surface shows natural pitting and weathering, against the smooth, fluid motion of the water. A sharp shadow falls along the right edge of the ledge, defining the boundary between the illuminated water and the darker stone background. at the edge is a single droplet clinging to a jagged rock edge, poised to fall.
