Rose-Red Petra Facade in Cumilla Drizzle in at the base of a monumental staircase near Cumilla

Rose-Red Petra Facade in Cumilla Drizzle

by Landon Smith

Wet rose-red sandstone glows faintly against the deep shadow of a monumental staircase base near Cumilla. Thin rain streaks slide down the carved limestone, darkening the intricate floral reliefs and geometric borders. First light catches the upper edges of the facade, creating a sharp rim of pale gold that separates the stone from the gloom. Water beads form on the carved capitals and drip from the lotus buds. The structure tilts sharply to the right, showing the heavy verticality of the steps rising behind it. Puddles at the base reflect the damp, reddish hue of the rock. One droplet rests on the corner of a carved archway before falling.
