Stained Light on Gurdwara Stone Altar Threshold in at the foot of a stone altar in Los Teques

Stained Light on Gurdwara Stone Altar Threshold

by Donna Case

Vibrant amber and crimson hues from colored glass windows wash over a rough-hewn stone threshold at the foot of a sacred altar. The midday sun falls through the panes, casting fractured patches of colored light onto the cool, textured floor. A warm glow from a hanging lantern settles softly into the shadowed corners, against the sharp geometric beams of the sun. The stone surface shows signs of age and reverence, polished by countless footsteps. Vertical lines of the altar structure create a rhythmic pattern against the dimmer background. One ray of red light illuminates a small brass oil lamp resting near the edge of the step, highlighting the grain of the metal.
