Pallas Cat on Ledge by Papua New Guinea Tidal Inlet

Soft gray overcast light washes over a wet, moss-slicked rock formation jutting into a churning tidal inlet. A Pallas's cat crouches low on the jagged ledge, its thick, salt-and-pepper coat dampened by a fine, persistent drizzle. The animal's round face and wide, amber eyes are fixed intently toward the water below, ears flattened slightly against the humid air. Raindrops bead on the dark slate stones and ripple the surface of the inlet where small waves lap against the base. From a low angle near the ground, the cat appears larger than life, framed by the vertical rise of the rocks and the blurred, gray-green expanse of the monsoon-tossed water. One droplet slides down the cat's whiskered cheek.
