Proboscis Monkey by Borneo River Under Rain

Rain streaks fall vertically across the frame, blurring the background foliage while keeping the proboscis monkey in sharp focus. The animal sits low against the muddy bank of a tidal inlet, its wet brown fur clumping together under the heavy downpour. Water droplets rest on the long, fleshy nose that hangs prominently over its mouth. The sky above is a uniform sheet of gray, diffusing the noon light so no harsh shadows appear on the wet earth. Surrounding vegetation displays the deep russet and gold tones of peak autumn, against the dark, churning water of the inlet. The monkey remains perfectly still, its dark eyes fixed forward, while raindrops ripple across the surface of the river beside its resting legs. One leaf, soaked and heavy, rests on the mud near its foot.
