Orange Sluice Gate Slot Under Bridge Derby

Rust-colored stains bleed downward from a narrow vertical slot in a weathered concrete slab, marking the path of water flow. The massive grey structure looms overhead, part of a cable-stayed bridge spanning the Derby riverbank. Deep shadows engulf the lower section of the wall, yet a sharp rim of early evening light catches the rough, pitted edges of the concrete. The orange oxidation contrasts starkly against the cool, damp grey tones of the stone. Fine cracks spiderweb across the surface, filled with grime from the recent storm. One rivulet of clear water trickles from the slot, disappearing into the shadowed base where the concrete meets the muddy ground. The texture of the eroded stone is visible, showing years of exposure to the elements.
